In a letter about pilgrimages, Pope John Paul II spoke of the fact that there are special times of grace (kairos), just as there are also special spaces or places of grace, like those places where Christ himself walked.
The Holy Land must have a special place in every Christian’s heart. It will not be possible for every follower of Christ to walk in those lands where Christ lived. But we can do so in spirit, as we read the gospels. And we must feel united to all our Christian brothers and sisters who are in the Holy Land, even as it goes through difficult and turbulent times.

Vatican accepts Cardinal Sin’s resignation, appoints Archbishop Rosales as successor
His Holiness Pope John Paul II has accepted the resignation of His Eminence, Jaime L. Cardinal Sin, from the pastoral governance of the Archdiocese of Manila, according to His Excellency Archbishop Antonio Franco, Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines. His Excellency, Most Rev. Gaudencio B. Rosales, at present the Archbishop of Lipa, has been nominated as the successor to the See of Manila. FULL TEXT
