Pope John Paul II has appointed a new Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of Lipa.The Holy Father accepted the resignation of Bishop Salvador Q. Quizon of Lipa and named Fr. Buenaventura M. Famadico, presently the
Vicar General of the Apostolic Vicariate of Calapan, Oriental Mindoro, to succeed him. The announcement was made in Rome last April 6, and simultaneously in Manila by Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Antonio Franco.
Bishop-elect Famadico was born on July 13, 1956 in Banton, Romblon. After completing his elementary studies, he entered the St. Augustine Seminary in Calapan City. He pursued his Philosophy studies at the
Divine Word Seminary in Tagaytay City and spent his Regency at Calintaan and Pinamalayan, Occidental Mindoro and with the Little Brothers Community in Mandaluyong City, before completing his Theology studies also at the
Divine Word Seminary.
He was ordained to the priesthood on October 25, 1983 for the Apostolic Vicariate of Calapan, Oriental Mindoro. He was assigned parochial vicar of the St. Joseph parish (1984-1985) and
later undertook postgraduate courses at the Asian Religious Formation Institute in preparation for his appointment as spiritual director (1986-1991) and director (1991-1997) of the St. Augustine Major Seminary. He
had also served as chaplain of the St. Anne Chaplaincy (1994-1996), and pastor of the Holy Spirit parish (1996-1997) and the Santo Niņo parish in Calapan City (1998 to the present).
He has attended courses in the
Retreat Direction Program, Religious Formation Program, and Priests' Assist Program and served as director of the Renewal Program for Priests. At the time of his appointment, Fr. Famadico was also parish priest of
the Cathedral and president of the "Assisted Intensive Renewal for Priests".
