NASSA supports clamor to impeach Tancangco

The National Secretariat for Social Action, Justice and Peace (NASSA), the social action arm of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), has joined the call for the impeachment of Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Commissioner Luzviminda Tancangco.

Tancangco has been embroiled in controversies over her alleged role in the botched implementation of the COMELEC's election automation project.

NASSA Executive Secretary Sr. Rosanne Mallillin, SPC, has urged all the 79 Catholic social action centers around the country to support the impeachment initiative against Tancangco.  "Part of the pursuit of political reforms is to help ascertain that the right people occupy key government positions," she said.  The NASSA administers the political reforms program of the CBCP.

"We are being given an opportunity to manifest our efforts for political reforms," she added.

NASSA serves as secretariat for the Tancangco impeachment initiative, which was launched jointly with the National Citizen's Movement for Free Elections (NAMFREL) and the Kongreso ng Mamamayang Pilipino (KOMPIL).
